SUMMARY:Creating Inclusive Child Care Programming: Equity\, Access\, and Belonging for Every Child
DESCRIPTION:Trainer: Alisa Burton \nWorkshop Description: \nThis interactive training\, presented by the Black Women in Early Childhood Collective (BWECC)\, will support child care providers in creating inclusive\, culturally responsive\, and appropriate environments for children with disabilities and developmental differences. Using an equity-centered lens\, the training will explore how disability\, race\, culture\, and implicit bias can influence the experiences of children and families within early childhood programs. Participants will examine current inclusion practices\, practical classroom strategies\, family-centered approaches\, and providers’ responsibilities under disability-related laws. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing each child’s strengths\, reducing barriers to participation\, implementing reasonable accommodations\, and partnering respectfully with families and specialists so every child experiences access\, dignity\, belonging\, and meaningful participation. \nLearning Objectives: \nBy the conclusion of the training\, participants will be able to: \n1) Explain the child care provider’s responsibilities under the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)\, and relevant provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)\, including equal access\, nondiscrimination\, and reasonable accommodations. \n2) Apply evidence-informed inclusion strategies such as individualized supports\, environmental adaptations\, visual supports\, strength-based guidance\, and universal design to promote the participation and development of children with diverse abilities. \n3) Identify and address the ways race\, disability\, culture\, and implicit bias may intersect with child care settings while building respectful\, collaborative partnerships with children\, families\, and early intervention service providers. \nREGISTER HERE \nPrivacy Disclosure Statement: This training is funded by First 5 of Alameda County.
