Group Counseling

Group counseling is a form of psychotherapy in which several individuals meet with one or more therapists. These members form a support group where they can learn from the experiences of others and offer advice.

Individuals experiencing a mental health challenge or problem behavior can feel isolated, and group counseling can help the individual by providing peers who are experiencing the same challenges or who have recovered from these challenges.

School Site Counseling

Having the opportunity to work through emotional problems with a caring and compassionate counselor makes all the difference to a young person struggling to find their way, helps keep suspensions down, keeps students from dropping out, and promotes healthier lifestyle choices.

In partnership with the San Leandro Unified School District, Hively provides pro bono individual and group counseling services on site to students in San Leandro schools. Students are referred by school staff and concerned parents.

Support Groups

Support groups bring together people who are going through or have gone through similar experiences. For example, this common ground might be cancer, chronic medical conditions, addiction, loss, or caregiving.

Hively’s support groups provide an opportunity for people to share personal experiences and feelings, coping strategies, and receive emotional support.

In Case of Emergency

If you are in crisis and need assistance immediately, please call 911 or the Alameda County Crisis Hotline at (800) 309-2131.

What to Expect

If you are seeking counseling for yourself or a loved one, call our San Leandro office at (510) 483-6715 or email info@behively.org to set up an appointment.

To get to know you and determine your needs, you will be asked to complete paperwork at your initial contact with Hively. During your first one-on-one meeting, the counselor will assess your needs. They will make a treatment plan based on their professional opinion and in collaboration with you.

If you require counseling at Hively, you and your counselor will work together to decide how frequently and for how long a period it is necessary to meet. This decision is made on a case-by-case basis and is determined by the appropriateness of time-limited treatment for your individual situation, our expertise in treating your particular problem, the availability of staff and other resources, and other factors.

We accept Medi-Cal and also offer a sliding-scale fee, on a case-by-case basis, based on income and houshold size. For more information, please contact Hively at (510) 483-6715.

Confidentiality

Any information you share during your contacts with Hively will be treated with the strictest confidentiality as allowed by law. In accordance with ethical and legal standards, this information will not be disclosed to anyone without your written consent, except in very specific circumstances as required by law.
