Working with Multi-Age Groups: How to Develop Curriculum, the Environment and Yourself as a Child Care Provider (Part 2)

Caring for children in multi-age group settings can have a powerful impact on a child’s overall development. Children in multi-age groups will develop friendships and engage in learning just as they would in same age settings with the added bonus of being able to access peer support and lead learning for other children. These care settings offer children the opportunity to develop more sophisticated social skills, and also requires an awareness from the providers of the various developmental ranges present in their group.
In this interactive two part virtual training, we will take a deep dive into the value of multi-age group caregiving through the lens of human development theories. You will also learn the practical strategies needed to develop strong curriculum and environments for multi-age groups.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the training, participant should be able to:
1) Explain or recall one human development theory related to development 0-5 years.
2) Discuss how social emotional development is connected to peer engagement and theory of Zone of Proximal Development.
3) Identify strategies to create high-quality multi-age group environments.
4) Assess ones knowledge of developmental milestones 0 to 5 years.
